From the historical foundation to today’s digital music economy music publishers have always mediated between culture and commercial interest. Today music publishers have to face new challenges more than ever before. Christian Baierle illuminates all sides of this ever changing business.
With “Der Musikverlag” he presents a comprehensive work and sets the standard. There is no other work of this completeness about music publishing.

This Book was long overdue. The book cover text claims the title of an “indispensable standard work” and this is more than right. So far, no other work in German is available on the market that deals so comprehensively with music publishing both historically and currently. In addition, the author’s work gives particular attention to economic and legal questions on this topic.

In conclusion, it must be said that “Der Musikverlag” has with great certainty the potential to be regarded as the comprehensive standard work for most questions relating to the subject area of “music publishing”. The author’s macro-perspective as well as the decidedly historical and economic approach to this difficult thematic complex should make the book attractive for economists and musicologists, but also for practitioners and interested parties. Rating: Very worth reading.
